How a small idea on a dark-sky ridge became Tromsø's most distinctive hotel.
Borealis Stay opened in 2018 on a ridge just outside Tromsø, chosen specifically for its near-total darkness and unobstructed view of the aurora oval. What began as a handful of glass-roof cabins has grown into a 24-suite boutique hotel, without losing the intimacy of its beginning.
Every design decision — from the retractable glass ceilings to the direction each window faces — was made with one goal: to put the Arctic sky at the center of the stay, not just the view from it.
Tromsø sits directly beneath the aurora oval, giving Borealis Stay one of the highest northern lights visibility rates in the world.
Locally-sourced timber and low-impact construction throughout.
Minimal exterior lighting to preserve optimal aurora visibility.
Every guest is hosted by staff who call Tromsø home.
